Blue Jays’ Teoscar Hernandez named AL Player of the Week

Toronto Blue Jays slugger Teoscar Hernandez has been named the American League player of the week, marking the third consecutive time a Blue Jay received the honour after George Springer earned the previous two.

Hernandez hit three home runs, including his first career grand slam Aug. 11 vs. the Angels, and 10 RBIs batting .500/.893/1.393 over seven games. The Blue Jays went 3-4 in that stretch.

The 28-year-old outfielder has 20 home runs, 81 RBIs and a .313 batting average in 98 games this season.

Arizona Diamondbacks rookie pitcher Tyler Gilbert, who became the first pitcher in 68 years to throw a no-hitter in his first big league start, earned the National League honour.
