Boxer Stevenson to defend light heavyweight title

MONTREAL — Canada’s Adonis Stevenson will defend his World Boxing Council light heavyweight title for the fourth time Dec. 19 in Quebec City against Russian Dmitry Sukhotskiy, promoter GYM announced Monday.

Stevenson (24-1), of Montreal, has held the title since his first-round knockout of Chad Dawson in June, 2013. In his last outing in May, he defeated Andrzej Fonfara by decision.

Sukhotskiy (22-2) will make his second attempt at a world title after a 12-round loss by decision in 2009 to Juergen Braemer in Germany for the WBO belt. The 33-year-old has fought mostly in Russia and Germany, except for a 2012 loss to Cornelius White in Las Vegas.

The bout at the Pepsi Colisee is to be televised by U.S. specialty channel Showtime.

Light heavyweight Artur Beterbiev (6-0), a Russian based in Montreal, will also be on the card against an undetermined opponent.
