As women were highlighted on the ice, they were highlighted on the microphone as well. First year communications student Amber Morley is the UOIT Ridgebacks’ announcer.

“The experience of playing against the Furies helped the Women on the UOIT team to see the potential that they could have after more years of experience,” Morley said.  “It is nice for the UOIT players to see what they can do in their hockey careers after their varsity hockey years.”

Morley reflected on her own career aspirations, as well.

“In such a field that there’s men who have most of the positions, every time I see a woman in a powerful position who’s working as an anchor, who’s working as a broadcaster – that inspires me. I learn their name, I learn their values, they get a follow on Twitter, and I follow what they’re doing, and try to shape my life after some of their core values.”
