KAZAN, Russia — Katinka Hosszu has set a world record in the 200-meter individual medley at the world swimming championships.
The Hungarian led all the way and touched in 2 minutes, 6.12 seconds to win gold Monday night.
Hosszu, who trains in the United States and is coached by her husband Shane Tusup, covered her mouth with her left hand and cried as she stared at the clock.
It was the fourth world record set in two days at Kazan Arena — all of them by women.
Kanako Watanabe of Japan finished second in 2:08.45 and Siobhan O’Connor of Britain was third in 2:07.77.
American Maya Di Rado was fourth and her teammate, Melanie Margalis, was seventh.
