Report: Rockhold out of Strikeforce: Champions

Strikeforce’s January “Champions” card has reportedly lost another one.

According to The MMA Corner, middleweight title-holder Luke Rockhold is off of the Jan. 12 card due to a wrist injury. He was scheduled to defend his belt against Lorenz Larkin in one of three title bouts on the card.

The headliner was originally supposed to feature lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez taking on Pat Healy but he remains sidelined.

That leaves just newly-crowned welterweight belt-holder Nate Marquardt as the lone champion in a matchup against Tarec Saffiedine. Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix tournament winner Daniel Cormier will also take on Dion Staring.

The January show at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City is expected to be the final event for the organization and it had hoped to end with a bang. It’s unclear what replacement fights the promotion will add, if any.

Injuries caused the cancellation of the final two Strikeforce events of 2012.
