Report: ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Caleb Plant agree to title bout

The only thing missing from Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s super-middleweight trophy case is currently in the possession of Caleb Plant.

According to a report from ESPN’s Mike Coppinger, the pair of champions have agreed to meet in a 168-pound title unification bout in November.

Alvarez, 31, holds the WBA, WBC, WBO and The Ring magazine belts, while Plant, 29, has held the IBF strap since 2019.

The fight will headline a pay-per-view card co-promoted by Premier Boxing Champions and Canelo Promotions.

An Alvarez-Plant title unifier was originally targeted for September before negotiations temporarily fell apart.

Plant (21-0) retained his title in January with a unanimous decision victory over Caleb Truax.

Alvarez (56-1-2) is widely considered the top pound-for-pound boxer competing in the sport. He is coming off a devastating technical knockout victory over Billy Joe Saunders in May during which Saunders sustained orbital bone fractures and a broken eye socket.
