The Toronto Raptors and Canadian centre Kelly Olynyk have agreed on a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Monday.
Although financial terms of the deal were not disclosed by the team, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports it’s a two-year deal worth $26.25 million.
As Sportsnet’s Michael Grange notes, Olynyk now has the certainty of a contract in place before Team Canada’s training camp for the 2024 Paris Olympics opens in June.
Olynyk is the team’s captain, and will be a big part of Canada’s quest for a medal at the Games.
The Raptors acquired Olynyk at the trade deadline from the Utah Jazz alongside Ochai Agbaji in exchange for Otto Porter Jr., Kira Lewis Jr. and a 2024 first-round pick.
Since the deal, the 10-year NBA veteran is averaging 9.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game with the Raptors while shooting 46 per cent from the field.
Olynyk was selected in the first round of the 2013 NBA draft out of Gonzaga by the Dallas Mavericks before being traded to the Boston Celtics.
Over his career, the 32-year-old has spent time with the Celtics, Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons and Jazz before arriving with the Raptors.
He has averaged 10.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists over 737 career NBA games.
