Report: Clippers join list of teams interested in Nets’ Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving has yet another suitor.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that the Los Angeles Clippers have expressed interest in the Brooklyn Nets point guard after Irving requested a trade on Friday.

The Clippers join the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns on the list of teams who have reportedly already inquired about the disgruntled star.

Kawhi Leonard and company have reportedly been in the market for point guard help after veteran guards Reggie Jackson and John Wall have struggled this season, and with Irving suddenly on the market, they are reportedly calling about a potential deal.

Irving did not give the Nets a preferred list of teams, although Wojnarowski is also reporting that there is strong mutual interest between the Lakers and Irving, which dates back to this summer. LeBron James and Irving teamed up to win the 2016 NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and James is reportedly very interested in reuniting with Irving in Los Angeles.

Wojnarowski also reported Saturday that the Nets are “determined” to find a deal for Irving ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

The 30-year-old point guard is in the final year of his current deal, and after contract extension talks stalled with the Nets last week, he decided to request out of Brooklyn.

Irving was held out of the Nets game on Saturday night against the Washington Wizards with calf soreness, but was still booed by the home crowd when shown on the jumbotron. The Nets came back to win the game 125-123.

Despite all of his off-court antics, there is no doubt that on the floor, Irving would be a huge boost to a team’s title aspirations. The Duke product is averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game for the Nets this season.
