Report: Knicks, head coach Tom Thibodeau agree to contract extension

Tom Thibodeau is staying in new work.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the New York Knicks and their head coach have agreed to a three-year contract extension through the 2027-28 season.

Thibodeau, 66, was named head coach for the Knicks in July 2020 and led the Knicks to their first playoff appearance since 2013 in the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season. For this feat, he was awarded NBA’s Coach of the Year honours.

Since his hiring, Thibodeau has led the Knicks to three playoff appearances in four years, including back-to-back trips to the conference semifinals.

A 14-year head coaching veteran, the Connecticut native has spent time with the Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves before joining the Knicks. He has a career win percentage in the regular season of .575.
