Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater inactive vs. Lions due to knee injury

Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will be inactive for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions due to a right knee injury, the team announced.

Bridgewater, who sustained the injury late in last week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was considered a game-time decision. He threw on the field Sunday morning, but was later deemed inactive.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that P.J. Walker will start at quarterback in Bridgewater’s place. Walker, a star last year in the defunct XFL, is 3-for-8 for 15 yards in two backup appearances this season.

Bridgewater, in his first year in Carolina, is averaging 255.2 passing yards/game and has 13 touchdowns versus seven interceptions in 10 starts. It’s his first season as a full-time starter since 2015, after which he suffered a serious non-contact injury to his left knee.
