Canadiens’ Matheson out indefinitely with lower-body injury

The Montreal Canadiens announced Monday that defenceman Mike Matheson will be out indefinitely with a lower-body injury.

Matheson did not travel with the team for the Habs’ seven-game road trip. Instead, he stayed in Montreal to receive a medical follow-up.

The blueliner had a team-high 22:37 of ice time during Montreal’s 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. This was Matheson’s return to the lineup after missing four games with a lower-body injury.

In his first season for his hometown team, Matheson picked up six points (one goal, five assists) in only 10 games.
