Canadiens place Drouin on injured reserve, Montembeault day-to-day

The Montreal Canadiens provided several health updates for their roster on Saturday, including the addition of Jonathan Drouin to the injured reserve and listing goaltender Samuel Montembeault as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Drouin sustained an upper-body injury during Thursday night’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. He flew back to Montreal in order to receive a follow-up with the team’s medical staff.

Montembeault suffered a minor wrist injury and is listed as day-to-day. The team says the ailment is not supposed to require surgery but, if rehab does not trend in the right direction, a surgical intervention could be a possibility that is pursued.

Micheal McNiven has been called up from Montreal’s taxi squad, Cayden Primeau will get the start in Denver against the Avalanche.

The Canadiens also announced that forward Brendan Gallagher and defenceman Jeff Petry will both be game-time decisions ahead of Saturday night.
