Devils sign Siegenthaler to five-year, $17-million extension

New Jersey Devils defenceman Jonas Siegenthaler has put pen to paper on a five-year contract extension worth $17 million on Tuesday.

The Swiss blueliner’s extension with a $3.4 million AAV will kick in for the 2023-24 season.

Siegenthaler will earn $4.25 million during the first year of his extension in 2023-24. His salary will then decrease to $4 million in 2024-25, $3.2 million in 2025-26, $3 million in 2026-27 and finally $2.55 million by the end of his contract extension in 2027-28.

The Devils initially acquired Siegenthaler from the Washington Capitals on April 11, 2021 in exchange for a conditional 2021 third-round pick. He then signed a two-year deal worth $2.25 million with New Jersey in July 2021.

The 25-year-old had a career-year in the 2021-22 season setting new highs with 13 assists and 14 points in 70 games.
