Hockey world pays tribute to Connecticut teen Teddy Balkind

The hockey world is mourning the loss of Teddy Balkind, a Connecticut teenager who died in a tragic on-ice incident on Thursday.

The accident occurred in a game between Balkind’s junior varsity team at the Brunswick School, a college preparatory school for boys in Greenwich, and St. Luke’s School, a private co-educational school from New Canaan.

During the game, Balkind fell to the ice and a player on the other team, unable to stop, collided with him, cutting Balkind’s neck with his skate blade. Balkind was treated by Brunswick medical staff and was transported to a local hospital but “tragically, he did not survive the operation,” Brunswick officials said.

In the wake of the unthinkable, teams and players from all levels paid tribute to Balkind on social media with the hashtag #SticksOutForTeddy.
