Saturday’s victory for the Dallas Stars solidified one post-season showdown in the West between the Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche, but nothing else was set in stone on Sunday.
The Jets and Avalanche are still battling for home-ice advantage. The Jets, though idle Sunday, could have clinched the advantage had the Avalanche lost to the Vegas Golden Knights in regulation. While Colorado blew a 3-0 lead in a 4-3 overtime loss, the Jets needed the Avalanche to drop both points, rather than just the one, to secure the No. 2 seed.
However, the Jets need just one point in their final two games to lock up home ice.
The Avalanche-Golden Knights result also means that the Nashville Predators will have to wait to lock in the first wild-card spot in the West.
In the Eastern Conference, the Carolina Hurricanes prevented the idle New York Rangers from clinching first place in the Metropolitan Division by beating the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2. The Rangers are one point ahead of the Hurricanes in the race for first.
Just four days remain in the regular season and 14 playoff berths have been clinched thus far.
