Jack Johnson agrees to professional tryout with Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche will have Jack Johnson in training camp for the upcoming NHL season after the veteran defenceman agreed to a professional tryout Wednesday.

Johnson had season-ending sports hernia-related surgery in March and played in only 13 games last year with the New York Rangers, registering one goal and a minus-5 rating.

The 34-year-old from Indianapolis has 71 goals and 232 assists in 950 games over 15 seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York. He was a third-overall pick by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2005.
