On Monday night, Morrissey set the Jets’ franchise record for points by a defenceman in a single season when he assisted on the opening goal against the New York Rangers and picked up his 57th point of the year.
Morrissey’s record-breaking point came on a Jets’ power play when his blast from the point was deflected by teammate Pierre-Luc Dubois past the Rangers’ Igor Shesterkin.
The 27-year-old picked up his 57th point in his 57th game of the season, adding another assist later in the game for his 58th point. Morrissey has absolutely smashed his previous career-high of 37 points in 2021-22.
His stellar play had helped the Jets to a 34-21-1 record as they continue to battle with the Dallas Stars for the Central Division title.
Note: This record is a combination of the Atlanta Thrashers franchise and the current version of the Jets, and not the previous Jets’ records which are currently held by the Arizona Coyotes.
