Kraken sign forward Ryan Donato to one-year, $750K contract

The Seattle Kraken signed forward Ryan Donato to a one-year, $750,000 contract, the team announced Monday.

Donato, who was an unrestricted free agent, had six goals and 14 assists in 50 games with the San Jose Sharks last season.

“Ryan’s hockey sense and ability to contribute on the scoresheet are two ingredients we are excited to add to our forward group,” Seattle Kraken General Manager Ron Francis said in a statement. “We like his offensive potential and believe he can add scoring depth.”

The 25-year-old from Boston was drafted by his hometown Bruins in the second round, 56th overall, in 2014. He has scored 35 goals and 42 assists over four seasons with the Bruins, Minnesota Wild and Sharks.

Donato captured a bronze medal with Team USA at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and tied for the tournament lead with five goals. He also played three seasons at Harvard University, from 2015-16 to 2017-18, where his father Ted was the team’s coach.
