Maple Leafs acquire Dryden Hunt from Avalanche for Denis Malgin

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded forward Denis Malgin to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for forward Dryden Hunt, the team announced Monday.

Hunt had two goals in 28 games with Colorado and the New York Rangers this season.

The 27-year-old, who has totalled 42 points (14 goals, 28 assists) in 193 career regular-season games, will join his fifth NHL team after stints with the Florida Panthers, Arizona Coyotes, Rangers and Avalanche.

The Maple Leafs acquired Malgin from the Panthers in February 2020. He had zero points in eight games with the Leafs before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the 2019-20 regular season in the middle of March.

Malgin then played the last two seasons in Switzerland before re-joining the Maple Leafs for 2022-23.

In 23 games, the 25-year-old had two goals and two assists with Toronto this season. The Swiss forward has 30 goals and 34 assists in 215 career NHL games.

Both Hunt and Malgin are pending unrestricted free agents.
