Oilers loan Turris to AHL, recall Broberg to set opening night roster

The Edmonton Oilers made a flurry of moves as they set their initial 23-man roster for the season ahead of the league’s roster deadline.

Kyle Turris and William Lagesson cleared waivers as Turris was loaned to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors and Lagesson was placed on injured reserve. The team also recalled Philip Broberg as they will carry eight defencemen to start the season.

Josh Archibald, Dylan Holloway and Dmitri Samorukov were assigned to the injured non-roster list while Oscar Klefbom and Alex Stalock were placed on long-term injured reserve.

Archibald was ruled out indefinitely with the heart condition myocarditis. It is the same condition that has Alex Stalock out for the season after the goaltender tested positive for COVID-19.

This is how the Oilers roster shapes up heading into the season.

Forwards: Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Zach Hyman, Jesse Puljujarvi, Kailer Yamamoto, Derek Ryan, Zach Kassian, Warren Foegele, Devin Shore, Brendan Perlinin, Tyler Benson, and Ryan McLeod.

Defencemen: Darnell Nurse, Tyson Barrie, Duncan Keith, Cody Ceci, Slater Koekkoek, Kris Russell, Evan Bouchard and Broberg.

Goaltenders: Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen.

Edmonton opens the 2021-22 season at home against the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday, Oct. 13 with puck drop at 10:00 p.m. ET on Sportsnet.
