Oilers name Rick Pracey director of amateur scouting, replacing Tyler Wright

The Edmonton Oilers have named former Philadelphia Flyers scout Rick Pracey as their new director of amateur scouting, replacing Tyler Wright, the team announced on Tuesday.

Pracey, 52, has scouted for the last two decades, and has been with the Flyers since 2014.

Before the Flyers, the Hamilton, Ont., native spent 13 years with the Colorado Avalanche, including six seasons as their director of amateur scouting.

While with the Avalanche, Pracey oversaw NHL Drafts that were highlighted by the selections of Nathan MacKinnon, Matt Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog, Ryan O’Reilly and Tyson Barrie.

After five seasons as a goalie for Sir Wilfrid Laurier University, he spent one season as a goaltender coach with the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires, in 2000, before becoming an amateur scout with Colorado in 2001.

Wright, 50, a former NHLer with 613 career games, had been with the Oilers since July 2019, when he came over with current Edmonton GM Ken Holland from the Detroit Red Wings, where he’d been since July 2013.
