The Nashville Predators are open for business.
Forward Nino Niederreiter was traded to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday and, according to Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek, that was just the beginning.
“We believe there are three untouchables on the Predators: captain Roman Josi, netminder Juuse Saros and winger Filip Forsberg, but after that it sounds like everything is very much on the table,” Marek said Saturday during the 32 Thoughts segment of Hockey Night in Canada.
Defenceman Dante Fabbro is one player expected to be moved before the March 3 deadline. The 2016 first-round pick is in the midst of a down season after a career year in 2021-22. Fabbro is set to become a restricted free agent following this season. His current salary cap hit is $2.4 million and Marek suggested San Jose as a possible destination for the 24-year-old. Sharks head coach David Quinn previously coached Fabbro at Boston University for two seasons.
Tanner Jeannot is another Predators player garnering attention from teams. Jeannot’s production has suffered this year after recording 24 goals, 130 penalty minutes and finishing seventh in Calder Trophy voting during his rookie campaign one season ago.
The 25-year-old Estevan, Sask., native is on the radar of teams coveting a power forward. Marek suggested the Dallas Stars could be one of them and he added Jeannot wouldn’t come cheap. Jeannot has five goals and nine assists in 56 appearances for Nashville this season. He is also a pending RFA like Fabbro.
The Predators already have approximately $67 million committed to the 2023-24 cap and only have a handful of UFA contracts set to come off the books this summer.
