Rangers’ Trouba avoids a hearing for hit on Penguins’ Crosby

New York Rangers defenceman Jacob Trouba will not face a hearing, thus avoiding any supplemental discipline for his hit on Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

The hit, which occurred during the second period of Game 4 of the teams’ first-round playoff series on Wednesday night, has left Crosby a question mark for being able to play in Game 5.

Crosby played just six shifts in the second period, and did not play the last 6:50 of the frame, leaving during a television timeout with 5:43 remaining. He did not return to the bench for the third period.

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said Thursday that Crosby has an upper-body injury, and will undergo evaluation in Pittsburgh.

More to come.
