Goalie Michael Hutchinson was signed to a one-year, two-way deal by the Detroit Red Wings for the remainder of the season, the club announced on Tuesday. The deal is reportedly worth $775,000 at the NHL level.
The 33-year-old has been playing with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League this season, posting a 5-7-1 record, 2.98 goals-against average and .895 save percentage. The 33-year-old from Barrie, Ont., has a career GAA of 2.93 and .902 save percentage.
Hutchinson gives the Red Wings four NHL-experienced goalies, to go with Ville Husso, Alex Lyon and James Reimer. Husso and Lyon are both injured, with the former listed as week-to-week by head coach Derek Lalonde on Tuesday and Lyon out until at least after Christmas.
Originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the third round in 2008, Hutchinson has played for Winnipeg, Florida, Toronto, Colorado and Columbus.
