Kraken select Flames captain Mark Giordano in expansion draft

The Seattle Kraken selected Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano in Wednesday night’s expansion draft.

Wednesday’s transaction brings an to the 37-year-old’s time in Calgary, where he has spent has spent all 15 years of his NHL career. Giordano leaves Calgary second to only Jarome Iginla in games played for the franchise (949 to 1219).

The veteran defenceman had 26 points in 56 games with the Flames last season and is just three seasons removed from a 69-point, Norris Trophy-winning campaign.

Giordano has one year with a $6.75-million cap hit remaining on a six-year, $40.5-million contract signed in 2015.
