Sabres’ Clifton to have hearing with NHL Department of Player Safety for hit on Hischier

Buffalo Sabres defenceman Connor Clifton will have a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety for his illegal hit on New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier in Friday’s game, the league announced.

With just over four minutes remaining in the first period, Clifton hit Hischier up high near the boards and was assessed a match penalty after a review.

Hischier exited the contest for the remainder of the first frame before returning in the second.

The Devils would go on to win the game 5-4.
