There’s nothing like receiving some flowers to brighten your day.
Buffalo Sabres captain Jack Eichel brightened many days this week when he sent 450 bouquets of flowers to nurses at the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in honour of Nurses Week. The flowers were accompanied by a printed note that included Eichel’s signature, where he expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the hospital’s nurses.

“Nurses have always held a special place in my heart as I grew up watching my mom’s dedication to caring for others as a nurse in Boston,” Eichel wrote in his card. “While this week is dedicated to celebrating the inspirational and compassionate work that you do every day for patients at Roswell Park, know that I am grateful to you for your tireless work day in and day out. These flowers are a symbol of my appreciation and admiration for the important work you do for everyone in (Western New York) touched by cancer. Happy Nurses Week!”
Roswell Park thanked Eichel for his generosity in a Facebook post, which included photos of nurses receiving the flowers and signing a thank you card of their own for the Sabres captain.
“We are so thankful to our incredible nursing staff and to Jack for going out of his way to make them feel extra special,” the hospital said in the post.
Eichel, who has not played since March 7 and will miss the remainder of the season due to a herniated disc in his neck, previously sent flowers to Roswell Park last year for Nurses Week, which happened to occur near the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
