Buffalo Sabres leading scorer Tage Thompson left Wednesday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes after sustaining an upper-body injury during the second period.
Hurricanes defenceman Jalen Chatfield received a two-minute penalty for holding Thompson, who appeared to be in pain as he left the ice and received treatment on the bench.
After the game, Sabres coach Don Granato told there was no further update on Thompson.
Thompson tops the Sabres with 34 goals and 68 points in just 50 games this season and was selected to his first All-Star Game.
The 25-year-old forward had missed practice Monday due to an upper-body issue.
Stefan Noesen had a goal and an assist and Antti Raanta stopped 29 shots as Carolina defeated Buffalo 5-1.
