Senators’ Derek Stepan to undergo shoulder surgery, miss rest of season

Ottawa Senators forward Derek Stepan will undergo surgery to repair a damaged labrum in his left shoulder and will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced Tuesday.

Stepan, who was acquired by the Senators in a trade with the Arizona Coyotes in December, suffered the injury during last Tuesday’s 5-4 shootout win against the Montreal Canadiens. The 30-year-old logged just over two minutes of ice time in the contest, due to what was now known to be a dislocated shoulder.

The team expects Stepan to be “fully recovered ahead of next season,” general manager Pierre Dorion said in a press release.

Stepan has scored once and added five assists in his first 20 regular-season games with Ottawa.
