Schauffele wins gold medal for USA in men’s golf at Tokyo Olympics

Xander Schauffele of the United States finished at 18-under holding on to win the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

Schauffele had a final round 67 for a total of 266 to win by a single stroke. It was the first gold medal for the United States since 1900 after the sport returned to Olympics in 2016 after a 112-year absence.

Slovakia’s Rory Sabbatini took the silver medal with a final score of 17-under. C.T. Pan won the seven-man playoff beating Collin Morikawa on the final hole which to claim the bronze medal.

Canadians Corey Conners finished 13th shooting 13-under while Mackenzie Hughes shot 3-under to finish in 50th.

Sabbatini made a final push for gold finishing with an Olympic-record final round of 61 with an eagle, 10 birdies and two bogeys on the day.
