Canada Soccer says Hamilton’s Tim Hortons Field will be reduced to 50 per cent capacity for the national men’s team’s World Cup qualifier against the United States on Jan. 30.
Canada Soccer says it made the decision to allow 12,000 fans by following all relevant public health guidelines for the outdoor venue.
The game being outdoors allows for a bigger crowd. Indoor sports venues in Ontario are limited to a maximum of 500 people through Feb. 21.
The game sold out shortly after tickets went on sale last month.
Canada Soccer says it will offer refunds for all ticket holders. It will also contact all ticket holders to provide details for how to purchase tickets for the reduced configuration.
Canada leads the Concacaf standings with six games to go in qualifying.
This window also includes games in Honduras on Jan. 27 and El Salvador on Feb. 2.
The top three teams earn direct berths to the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
