Marathon player tests positive for COVID-19 ahead of game vs. Forge

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — A CD Marathon player tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of Tuesday’s Scotiabank CONCACAF League play-in match against Forge FC.

CONCACAF said the individual concerned had been isolated from the Honduran team. All other Marathon players and staff, as well as the entire Forge delegation and match officials, tested negative.

CONCACAF said the game would go ahead as planned.

The winner of Tuesday’s match advances to the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League, the confederation’s elite club competition.

Honduras’s Marathon and Hamilton’s Forge moved into the play-in game after losing their quarterfinals last week in the CONCACAF League, a 22-team feeder competition that send six clubs to the Champions League.

The four quarterfinal winners and two play-in game victors book their ticket to the Champions League.
