Real Madrid without Ronaldo in Champions League semifinal

MANCHESTER, England — Cristiano Ronaldo has not been included in Real Madrid’s team to play Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal.

The Portugal forward was not even selected among the substitutes for Madrid on Tuesday, having been nursing an injury to his right thigh. He missed Madrid’s match against Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish league on Saturday because of his injury.

Real coach Zinedine Zidane said Monday that he expected Ronaldo to be fit to start against City.

Striker Karim Benzema was also an injury doubt for Madrid because of a knee problem, but was named in the team for the game at Etihad Stadium.
