Report: Canada’s Ismael Kone to sign with English club Watford from CF Montreal

Canada and CF Montreal midfielder Ismael Kone is set to join English second division club Watford, according to world soccer insider Fabrizio Romano.

According to Romano, the move will represent a club-record transfer for Montreal. The Major League Soccer club has been on a selling spree, having announced the sale of fellow Canadian Alistair Johnston to Scotland’s Celtic on Saturday.

Romano further reported that physical tests were already approved and Kone will put pen to paper on a long-term deal in the coming days.

The 20-year-old made a stratospheric rise in the soccer sphere this year, playing in his first professional game in February. Kone, who was playing semi-professional soccer in Montreal as of 2020, featured in 26 league games for CF Montreal picking up two goals and five assists.

He was later selected to take part in the 2022 World Cup for Canada after making his national team debut in March. Kone played Canada’s three World Cup group stage games, substituting off the bench on all three occasions.
