Bianca Andreescu has been on a roll heading into the first Grand Slam final in her career on Saturday afternoon, but she’s still listed as the underdog at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com as she looks to knock off Serena Williams and claim the U.S. Open title.
The 19-year-old Canadian advanced to the final at Flushing Meadows with a hard-fought 7-6, 7-5 win over Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic on Thursday night, which came on the heels of a comeback 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory against Belgium’s Elise Mertens in the quarterfinal round.
That leads Andreescu into Saturday’s championship match against Williams, where she’s listed as a +220 underdog on the betting lines. Williams is set as the -275 favourite for the match.
Andreescu claimed the first WTA title of her career back in March at Indian Wells with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory against Germany’s Angelique Kerber. After battling a shoulder injury in the summer, Andreescu followed up her win at Indian Wells with a championship run at the Rogers Cup — with Williams forced to retire from their meeting in the final with back spasms.
Williams, though, has looked dominant at the U.S. Open this month, rolling over China’s Qiang Wang 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals, and Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals on Thursday night. Williams fell in the U.S. Open final to Naomi Osaka last year, and last won the event back in 2014, one of the six U.S. Open titles on her resume.
Along with being the overall match favourite, Williams is also -240 chalk over Andreescu (+180) on the odds to win the first set on Saturday afternoon. The over/under for the first set is listed at 9.5 games, with the under the -150 favorite and the over a +115 underdog on that prop wager. Andreescu’s over/under for games won is also set at 9.5, with the over a small favourite at -125. Williams’ over/under is at 12.5 with the under at -140.
And on the match props, a 2-0 victory for Williams is pegged as the -120 betting favourite, followed by 2-1 Williams at +295, 2-0 Andreescu at +400, and 2-1 Andreescu at +600. Williams is -170 chalk to pick up the first service break on Saturday afternoon, and the -700 favourite to have the most aces on the day, with the odds of a tie-break listed at +265.
