Denis Shapovalov thanks New York after U.S. Open loss

Rising Canadian tennis star Denis Shapovalov finished the final major of the season on Sunday night and took to social media to express his gratitude.

The 18-year-old sent a thank-you tweet to the the city of New York after his fourth-round loss to Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta at the U.S. Open.

The defeat to Carreno Busta ended a prolific stretch for Shapovalov.

Shapovalov started the season ranked 250th in the world. After entering the U.S. Open at 69th, he’s expected to move up to the 50th-overall range. His summer successes include a win at the Gatineau Challenger and a semifinal finish at Rogers Cup after he defeated then-No. 2 Rafael Nadal.
