Former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will be enshrined as part of the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024 as a member of the ‘Modern Wing,’ the UFC announced Saturday.
Jedrzejczyk was the second-ever champion in the UFC’s women’s strawweight class, taking the title away from inaugural champion Carla Esparza at UFC 185 on March 14, 2015.
The Polish striker would hold onto the title for more than two years, eventually relinquishing it to Rose Namajunas at UFC 217 on Nov. 4, 2017. She compiled a record of 16-5 (10-5 UFC) over the course of her 10-year professional MMA career.
“Joanna is one of the greatest athletes in combat sports history,” UFC CEO Dana White said. “Joanna is an amazing person who has been an incredible champion, ambassador, and role model for women’s MMA, as well as an absolute killer inside the Octagon. She fought the best of the best in her division and never backed down from an opponent. Joanna is one of the toughest athletes we’ve ever seen, and it will be an honour to induct her into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer during International Fight Week.”
Jedrzejczyk will become the third member of the 2024 Hall of Fame class, joining Frankie Edgar and Wanderlei Silva. She’ll be the 13th member of the Modern Wing, a section that includes names BJ Penn, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Canadian legend Georges St-Pierre. The denomination specifies athletes who turned pro on or after Nov. 17, 2000, are a minimum age of 35, or have been retired for one year or more.
The native of Olsztyn, Poland made her professional debut on May 19, 2021, and her UFC debut on July 26, 2014, defeating Juliana Lima via unanimous decision.
One of the best strikers of all time, she has landed the most significant strikes in UFC women’s history (1,754), the highest rate of significant strikes per minute in UFC strawweight history (6.59) and has recorded six of the top 10 most significant strikes landed in a UFC strawweight fight.
She also holds the record for most title fight wins in UFC strawweight history with six and the longest winning streak in UFC strawweight history with eight.
