2016-17 NHL Suspension Tracker: Draisaitl only fined

Blue Jackets forward Matt Calvert shows his frustrations late in the game as he cross-checks Penguins forward Tom Kuhnhackl in the back and breaks his stick. To add to the rivalry, the ending of this game saw tempers flare also.

Two punishments have been handed out in the playoffs so far.

The NHL’s department of player safety handed out a one-game playoff suspension to Columbus’s Matt Calvert for a nasty cross-check at the end of Game 2 versus Pittsburgh, but Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl escaped with a fine for spearing Sharks forward Chris Tierney in a,um, sensitive region.

Last season, 65 offending NHLers combined to forfeit more than $2.7 million due to reckless plays and off-ice decisions.

Suspensions and fines are down significantly this season. Keep it here for an ongoing rundown of player safety’s 2016-17 supplementary discipline.
