Dangle confronts Patrice Bergeron about Game 7

When the NHL’s Media Tour rolled through Toronto, I had the pleasure of speaking to a dozen NHL players. Almost all of those conversations were scheduled so I could talk to them for Sportsnet’s Twitter and Instagram account. One player who came unexpectedly waltzing in however was a gentleman by the name of Patrice Bergeron.

In that surprise moment I knew one thing:

I had to talk to Bergeron about Game 7 against the Leafs in 2013.

I told Patrice I was a Maple Leafs fan, I pressed record, and it… it got awkward.

Enjoy as I confront Patrice Bergeron about his incredible playoff performance and try to overcome the demons implanted in my brain by that game.

Editing this video meant putting Bergeron’s goals into this video. That also meant watching those goals…over and over and over again. It was terrible because I haven’t really watched those goals in depth since they happened because it hurts my heart to do so. A few observations, though:

  • You want to know who Randy Carlyle sent out as his three forwards for the game-tying goal? Jay McClement, Nikolai Kulemin, and James van Riemsdyk. Since when was that ever a line?!?
  • The overtime-winner is agonizing. All three of Jake Gardiner, Cody Franson, and Mikhail Grabovski had a legitimate chance of clearing the puck from in front of the net. You know what they say though: If ifs and buts were candy and nuts I wouldn’t be a miserable Leafs fan.

Haven’t relived that game enough? Check out my LFR video from the morning after below.
