The 42-year-old will start practicing with the St. Louis Blues starting Friday, the team announced on Twitter Wednesday.

The Blues (14-6-2) lost their first-string goaltender Brian Elliott to a lower-body injury on Tuesday night against the Ottawa Senators.

Jake Allen came into the game in the second period to replace Elliott.

Head coach Ken Hitchcock told the St. Louis Dispatch on Wednesday that Elliott’s injury is “week-to-week”.

“We’ll kind of address it every Sunday and see how he is,” Hitchcock told the Dispatch. “That’s about as close as I can give you right now. He’s had this type of injury before and has recovered quickly and nicely so we’re hoping for the former, but we don’t want to say it’s five or six days and then it’s 14 so we’ll leave it at that.”

On Nov. 12, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports and the Journal de Montréal, said on Twitter that Brodeur wasn’t ready to retire just yet.

In early October, it was reported that Brodeur was skating with the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to stay in shape.

On TVA Sports’ Le Premier Trio on Wednesday night, Brodeur admits that he has worked very to get to where he is today.

He also added that it will be very different not wearing his typical red and black sweater.

Last season with the New Jersey Devils, the team where he has spent his entire 21-year career, Brodeur appeared in 39 games, winning 19 and posting a .901 save percentage.

Currently St. Louis will roll with Jake Allen, who has appeared in nine games so far this season, posting a 6-2-1 record. His .920 save percentage and two shutouts has been a nice addition to the Blues, who are in second place in the Central Division.

Jordan Binnington was recalled on an emergency basis from the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves on Wednesday. Allen will be expected to start on Friday night when St. Louis hosts the slumping Edmonton Oilers.
